New bike tire design: Airless, can’t go flat

0

A tire that never goes flat isn’t a brand-new concept. But all the other designs on this idea have remained just that: concepts.

Littleton, Colo.-based Britek Tire and Rubber is hoping to end that trend with its airless tire design, which uses two layers of rubber over a composite wheel. Britek says the design won’t go flat and loses less energy on bumps.

In a video demonstration, the company shows the tire in action doing — what else for a Colorado company? — a little mountain biking.
