‘Fooducate’ app tells consumers if foods contain GMOs

California’s Proposition 37, which would require all food containing genetically modified organisms to be labeled, is expected to pass despite slightly waning support, according to polls.

If it does, consumers across the country could see labels on foods warning that the food contains GMOs. But even before then, consumers can find out if they bring their smartphone to the store.

Fooducate, a new app for iPhones and Android devices, informs consumers of the probability that their food contains GMOs or is “highly processed.” Users scan a barcode and the app takes it from there.
