New dining experiences in Colorado ski resorts and towns

Itīs been a long day up on the mountains and the Clif bar you had earlier did no justice to your hunger. Thankfully, ski resorts and towns in Colorado realize it takes more than just a chewy granola bar to satisfy famished skiers — and they reinvent their dining scene year after year. From luxury on-mountain dining to convenient cafés, here is a list of a few new dining experiences guests can find while hitting the slopes this season.

The Continental, Wolf Creek

The Continental will serve guests a variety of coffees and teas, as well as other drink items and freshly baked pastries. The espresso bar is located on Prospector Ridge, to the left of the Treasure Chairlift area.

Element 47, Aspen

Element 47 takes its name from silver’s atomic number on the periodic table — an homage to Aspen’s history as a mining camp. It is the reinvention of Montagna, the restaurant at The Little Nell hotel at the base of Aspen Mountain. Guests can enjoy a few small plates or a multicourse dinner labeled for one of four “elements”: garden, sea, sky or field. Element 47 opens Nov. 22.

Elk Camp, Snowmass

Elk Camp does “grab and go” as only Aspen can, firing wild mushroom pizzas with fontina cheese and truffle oil in a custom-build pizza oven and roasting chicken and pork loin to be served on baguettes. The new mid-mountain restaurant and events center, located at the top of the Elk Camp Gondola, is scheduled to open on Thanksgiving Day.

Mountain Standard, Vail

Mountain Standard is a new iteration of Vail’s Sweet Basil. With the same creators and in same building as its predecessor, Mountain Standard is intended to be the more relaxed version of Sweet Basil. Guests can choose from simple and rustic fare of rotisserie chickens, fresh salads and applewood grilled steaks while enjoying the view of Gore Creek. Mountain Standard is set to open in early December.

Park & Main, Breckenridge

This is the latest of brothers Ken and Todd Nelson’s restaurant ventures, adding to Giampietro’s Pizzeria and Empire Burger in Breckenridge. Park & Main focuses on quick service for skiers in a hurry, plating a variety that includes Vietnamese banh mi and zucchini parm sandwiches.

Raven’s Roost, Wolf Creek

This new full-service bar will be stocked and ready to serve at the start of the upcoming ski season. It will be located on the top level of Raven’s Nest, the glass restaurant located on the top of the Raven Lift.

Take Four Quad Grille, Powderhorn

This new outdoor eatery at Powderhorn will be located at the top of the Take Four Lift and will be a cash-only joint. The menu will include burgers, brats, grilled chicken and soft drinks.
