On Jan. 18, Project YES will hold a march and rally for peace in Lafayette to honor Martin Luther King, Jr. The fifth annual Martin Luther King Jr. March for Peace, originally conceived by service-learning students at Pioneer Elementary School, begins at noon with a peace walk from the corner of South Boulder Road and South Public Road to the rally at Escuela Bilingue Pioneer Elementary School.

Students from Centaurus High School will facilitate a mural project to commemorate Dr. King’s legacy and raise awareness during the MLK celebration. In addition, community members will have the opportunity to participate in a resource and service fair from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., to help kick-off the national “Semester of Service” initiative.

The Semester of Service kick-off at the Martin Luther King, Jr. event marks the beginning of five months of service from January through May. During this time, thousands of young people will participate in on-going and one-day events celebrating the power of service in America.
