An oil pipeline

Mayflower, Ark. has been hit by a large oil spill from the ExxonMobil-operated Pegasus oil pipeline, causing hundreds of thousands of gallons to pour into yards and streets, Exxon confirms.

Twenty-two homes in the town, near Little Rock, have been evacuated due to the spill. Cleanup is ongoing, Exxon says, while the state’s attorney general has questioned the inspections process on the 65-year-old pipeline.

According to the federal government, more than 250 “significant” spills occur every year.
