The Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art brings a slice of big-city art culture to small-town Boulder, offering a wide variety of thought-provoking and clever exhibits that satisfy both the curious and the knowledgeable patron. The museum brings artists from around the world to Boulder and also showcases the talents of locals. BMoCA doesn’t just put art on a pedestal; it invites the community to participate as well. Patrons could make tea from herbs growing in the gallery as part of a 2012 exhibit, and community members donated more than two dozen items for an exhibit called The Museum of Broken Relationships. Admission is free on Saturdays during the Farmers’ Market.

Art is a magnificent, bubbling cauldron of change, innovation and new blood. Old ideas get reinterpreted, recycled and re-envisioned; new artists come up with styles and work that change the never-ending conversation of what art should and can be. This is all a way of saying art didn’t end with the impressionists, and the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art is dedicated to showcasing a slice of the art of the present and the living, breathing artists that make it. By offering exhibits that intrigue, challenge and educate, the museum has made itself a gem of learning and creativity in downtown Boulder.
