Breakfast at Under the Sun

UNDER THE SUN WHIPS OUT THE BREAKFAST MENU 

They killed it with beer choices. They killed it with lunch and dinner. They’ve even succeeded at happy hour and late night meals. And now, they’re tackling breakfast.

Starting this month, every Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m.-2 p.m., Mountain Sun restaurant Under the Sun, is turning into breakfast heaven.

The menu will focus on Mountain Sun twists on established diner standards. The corned beef hash has the corned beef and potatoes, but gets dressed up with sauerkraut and lemon hollandaise. The steak and eggs has its namesake, but also includes fried goat cheese, mixed greens and a lemon-parsley vinaigrette. Yum.

When it comes to the griddle, you’ll have more options than the Bubba Gump shrimp boat. Pick from classics like standard buttermilk to nu-classics like the Captain’s French Toast, which is coated in Cap’n Crunch, served with strawberries, sweetened mascarpone and bacon, and doused in pineapple syrup.

Then there’s the breakfast pizza made courtesy of Woody, Under the Sun’s woodburning oven.

Even the drinks have that touch of the sun on their shoulders. For their Bloody Marys you have a choice of jalapeño, habanero, serrano or Anaheim infused vodka. Get a mimosas in orange, grapefruit, cranberry, pineapple or apple juice.

And it wouldn’t be a brewery breakfast if beer wasn’t incorporated somehow. Some of their beer cocktails include the Belgian 75, with Beefeater gin, Number One Tripel, lime juice and simple syrup. And Under the Sunset with Absolut, Annapurna Amber, Aperol, Simple syrup and lemon juice.

Is it Saturday yet? No? How about now? Sigh...

FLATIRONS FOOD FILM FESTIVAL TO GO DOWN IN OCTOBER 

In no order, here are three of the greatest things ever: movies, beer and food. And come fall, they’ll all be mashed up together to form best-things-ever-Voltron, or its actual name, The Flatirons Food Film Festival.

The festival will take over CU’s International Film Series beginning October 16, with showings of food-related films and documentaries at CU’s Muenzinger Auditorium. Expect to salivate.

LINDSAY’S BOULDER DELI CLOSED FOR RENOVATION 

Diners and mallrats alike might notice something absent as they stroll down Pearl Street this week. Lindsay’s Boulder Deli, which occupies the choice corner spot at Pearl and Broadways streets, has closed its doors for a 2-month renovation.

The lack of sandwiches and fresh soups announced daily has avid followers flocking to their website and Facebook page to express their outrage at the twomonth abandonment period, which just goes to show that it’s true what they say: you really don’t know what you have till it’s gone.

The local beloved deli will open back up again in early June.
