NITRO COFFEE 

Can’t decide between the buzz of coffee and the foam of beer? Well it’s no longer a decision you have to grapple with. The Cup Espresso Café on Pearl Street has recently introduced Boulder’s first “nitrogen coffee,” which is coffee on draft that cascades in its glass like a Guinness stout and has a beerlike head. Unlike nitro beer, this nitrogen-infused coffee contains no CO2 for a smooth, full body finish with no carbonation.

“We use our toddy coffee and toddy coffee is a 24-hour-brewed cold coffee,” said barista Rachel Bronk. “We submerge it in water for 24 hours then we pull it and then we cut it with less water than our usual iced coffee so there’s a really high amount of caffeine.”

As for the particular roast, The Cup is rotating the nitro tap, and will continue to experiment with different flavors from single-origin espressos from around the world provided by Conscious Coffees, a craft micro-roastery in Boulder The Cup’s nitro coffee is offered daily and is $1 off for happy hour from 4 to 5 p.m. For more information visit www.thecupboulder.com or visit them at 1521 Pearl St.

FATHER’S DAY BARBEQUE AT MCGUCKINS 

Barbeque. Blues. Brews. Unless they’re a vegetarian teetotaler with Pat Boone’s box set, that trifecta should be enough to make any father happy.

This Sunday from noon to 5 p.m., Boulder’s “everything” store (McGuckin Hardware) will be doing Father’s Day in style, with barbeque demos, a beer garden of local brews for sale, and Blues music for the whole family, not just papa.

The event will help The Dairy Center for the Arts cap their A Taste of Art festival, which you can read more about on Page 45 and is located at The Village shopping center in the parking lot of McGuckin Hardware, 2525 Arapahoe Ave. Admission is free, but donations to The Dairy Center for the Arts will be accepted at the door.

ARUGULA DINNER 

Boulder Italian restaurant Arugula is celebrating summer with a specially planned fivecourse meal paired with wines from one of California’s most historic family wineries.

Starting at 6:30 p.m. on June 17, the Summer Solstice Bounty Wine Dinner with Seghesio Family Wines will have Regional Sales Director Aaron Crespin leading the evening with sample tastings of Zinfandels and Italian varietals from Seghesio Family Wines — a winery established in 1895 when Edoardo Seghesio came to Sonoma from his family’s Piemontese vineyards.

The menu will feature all local ingredients (with the exception of a few oils, spices and berries), Colorado lamb shank and carrots, and honey and rhubarb bread pudding prepared by Arugula chef and owner Alec Shuler.
