WORLD CUPPING IT LIKE A BOSS

Fact: The World Cup is better with snacks. Second fact: The snacks at your weird cousin’s house that has cable are a little lackluster. Here are some restaurants in Boulder that can help you out.

Aji Latin American Restaurant: It’s Happy Hour all day if you’re wearing your team’s colors! Food and drink specials are available during matches, like the Aji Famous Tacos (duck, tilapia, carne, or veggie for $2), Pao de Queijo (gluten-free Brazilian cheese bread & adobo agave glaze for $2), and the national cocktail of Brazil, Caipirinha (Cachaca, Lime, sugar for $5).

Pica’s Mexican Taqueria: Mexican beers (Dos Equis, Negra Modelo, Corona, etc.) are all $2 during matches and Pica’s Margaritas are $4. For morning matches, breakfast tacos, burritos and chilaquiles will be served. A raffle to win the 2014 World Cup Brazuca Ball during every match will benefit Longmont’s Intercambio.

World Famous Dark Horse Bar & Grill: Enjoy World Famous Dark Horse’s world famous burgers with $2.75 pints of Budweiser or Bud Light for every soccer match.

Fate Brewing Company: Brazilian beers Xingu (black lager, $7/10 oz.) and Palma Louca (pale ale $5/12 oz.) from brewery FEMSA Cerveja Brasil, are now on draft in honor of the World Cup! Fate will open at 10 a.m. for early morning matches with its full menu and daily food specials.

Bohemian Biergarten: The Biergarten is equipped with lots of big screen TVs and is selling liter beers for happy hour prices during matches. It’s also the place in Boulder you’re most likely to hear someone curse a goalie in fluent Portuguese.

Conor O’Neill’s: The official Colorado Rapids bar and home pub of the American Outlaws — the official U.S. men’s soccer support club — will serve breakfast for early morning matches, with happy hour specials available for afternoon games starting at 3 p.m.

Look out for free giveaways sponsored by Budweiser and FIFA and the chance to win tickets on July 13 for the Manchester United vs. AS Roma game at Sports Authority Field.

ST JULIEN CHANNELS ST. LAWRENCE FOR INDEPENDENCE DAY

The St Julien Hotel will host a BBQ buffet on their backyard terrace for America’s b-day. The “Flatiron BBQ” is $24.95/person (not including tax, tip or beverage) and will go from 6-8:30 p.m. Funk band Honeycomb will perform from 6-9 p.m. Check out the tantalizing menu at www.stjulien.com. Tickets will be sold at the door the day of the event.

SUMMER TIKI ROAST AT OAK AT FOURTEENTH

An island-inspired five course meal paired with refreshing rum cocktails will cure your coastal nostalgia blues. On July 7 starting at 6 p.m., OAK at fourteenth on 1400 Pearl St. will serve up jerk chicken, roasted plantains, and a luau style pork roast accompanied with Jamaican lagers and some rum daiquiris. Coconut sorbet with mango gelee will top off the community style dinner. Price is $75 not including tax or gratuity. To make reservations call 303-444- 3622.

ALFALFA’S OPENS IN LOUISVILLE

Sad there isn’t an Alfalfa’s in East Boulder where you can pick up your organic groceries or get a tasty lunch? Fret no more; the Colorado grocery store opened its second location — with hot and cold food bars and a slightly smaller grocery selection — on June 27 at 785 E. South Boulder Road. Hours are 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day.

IHOP TURNS 56!

When the International House of Pancakes opened its first restaurant back in 1958 in a suburb of Los Angeles, the price of a short-stack was $0.60. Today it is $5.39. But on Tuesday, July 8 you can get the famous original buttermilk pancakes for $0.56 to celebrate the franchise’s 56th birthday. Celebrate the Rooty Tooty Fresh ‘N Fruity and Summer Signature Pancake restaurant other than when you are making a pit stop on the road.
