WHERE’S THE BEEF?

Boulder’s darkest dining experience returns for the 12th time this week, with The Blind Cafe serving dinner in a pitch-black environment Thursday, Sept. 25 through Saturday, Sept. 27 at Shine Restaurant and Gathering Place.

“Guests will start the evening being guided into the dark by the blind wait staff with wine and dark chocolate followed by a delicious vegetarian sensory tasting,” says a press release. “The ultimate goal of The Blind Cafe is for guests to walk away from the event having changed the way they view themselves. Guests will have the personal and intimate experience of what it would be like to suddenly lose eyesight and have to function.”

There will also be a glass of Shine beer and a chocolate dessert. What kind of chocolate you may ask? Dark. Duh.

Accompanying the dinner will be a concert by Rosh and The One Eye Glass Broken Orchestra. Afterwards there will be a Q&A session with the staff about their experiences.

A portion of the proceeds will go to Boulder Guide Dog Puppies.

Tickets are available at www.BoulderBlindCafe.com, and start at $85, but organizers say no one will be turned away for inability to pay.

PIZZA FOR THE PUPPIES

Hey you. You like pizza, right? And dogs? Sure you do. Who doesn’t like pizza and dogs? Besides total dingleberries, obviously.

Well, on Tuesday, Sept. 30 you can strut your not-being-a-dingleberriness around like a boss when Pizzeria de Lupo (the pizza part of this equation) donates 10 percent of all proceeds to The Humane Society of Boulder Valley (the dog part). Eat pizza and help save a pooch? By Grabthar’s Hammer, what a bargain! Doesn’t even matter what you order or what time of day. All day. Ten percent.

But if for some reason you don’t like dogs — we’re guessing North Korean military brainwashing — then remember that the Humane Society of Boulder Valley takes in all kinds of other animals as well. So getcherself a pizza (or a salad) and know that you’re throwing a bone to a rescue ferret or cockatiel in the process.

GREENBEERFEST

Another weekend, another livemusic/local beer event for a good cause.

Boulder beer-lovers will be smiling from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27 thanks to the second year of Green. Beer. Fest. (formerly Frack Free Brew Festival), a one-day event that packs a lot in: a Colorado craft beer garden, a drum circle, live local bands and a blues jam open to all musicians. And in perhaps the biggest attractor, the event will be handing out free beer coupons from 3-4 p.m.

Pouring Man Productions is putting on the event at the historic Bandshell on the corner of Broadway and Canyon to celebrate Colorado’s clean water — which makes farming and craft beer possible. This year’s beneficiary is the Colorado Ocean Coalition, a Boulder-based nonprofit that works to educate inlanders about how ocean health begins far upstream in land-locked states.

Unlimited beer refills for the event come with the purchase of a $20 beer cup. More information including a full lineup of speakers and bands can be found online at www.greenbeerfest.com
