A VENTI DOSE OF SNOBBERY

Boulderites are definitely proud of their food culture. Some might even call it snobbery. But it’s okay, because according to rankings recently released by real estate blog Redfin, we’re not just garden variety snobs; we’re some of the nation’s top snobs when it comes to coffee.

Boulder ranked 3rd in the nation for coffee snobbery, just behind Seattle and Portland.

“We selected these cities because they have the most indie coffee shops per capita, according to Foursquare data,” Redfin wrote. “We defined indie coffee shops as those with fewer than 10 retail locations.”

Denver, our neighbor and nemesis, ranked 5th like a bunch of chumps. Suck it, losers! And by “it,” we mean a delicious cup of coffee from a Boulder coffee shop. Read the full report at http://bit. ly/1rXkwPi. — Josh Gross

LYFE KITCHEN’S KITCHEN TO COME TO LIFE

Anyone strolling down Pearl Street in the last few months is likely to have noticed the full-window signs plugging the imminent opening of Lyfe Kitchen, a new “we’re so fancy, you already know, we’re in the health lane, from LA to Tokyo,” style restaurant.

Well that opening is going down this week, with the doors flying open at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 15.

The chain has 15 locations across the U.S., mostly in metro foodie centers, and focuses on making meals that are both healthy and delicious. Nothing on the menu clocks in at more than 600 calories and there are plenty of vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free items.

FARMER’S MARKET TAKES OVER LIBRARY BRIDGE CAFE

The cafe in the downtown library bridge has been shut down for some time as part of the library’s remodel. But the City of Boulder announced this week that it has signed a deal with the Boulder County Farmers’

Market to take over the cafe, and that it is expected to reopen in February, dishing up local snacks.

If you’d like to suggest a name for the new cafe, you can do so via an online form at http://bit.ly/1pR5KGE. But be warned, creative pottymouths, your oh-so-hilarious suggestions about calling it the “Windbreak Diner,” will probably get weeded out by city staff who will curate a selection from the submissions for an online poll. Get literary if you want to make the cut. Restaurant at the End of the Universe, anyone?

EXPANDING ESCOFFIER

The Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts in Boulder will soon be expanding its digs in South Boulder. The City of Boulder has gotten on board with the expansion, naming Thursday, Oct. 9 “Escoffier Day,” which — if we put our conspiracy hats on —seems like a scheme to help cut the Post Office budget by providing yet another fake holiday. But hey, we’re not saying that’s the case. Just that it looks pretty suspicious from beneath this tinfoil hat that is baking our brains at 350 degrees until golden brown.

Any members of the public interested in checking the school out or learning more about its expansion plans can go to an open house at Escoffier on Saturday, Oct. 11 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Helpful and clog-shod pastry wunderkinds will be on hand to tell you all you ever wanted to know and more about the school’s pastry and culinary programs, as well as its popular farm-to-table program.
