Synth-pop group Polica is putting audiences in a groovy trance nationwide. Drums, bass and synths are layered and topped off with with dreamy, stylized vocals. The group started out as an experiment between singer Channy Leaneagh and producer Ryan Olson, who had worked together in a supergroup called Gayngs among the likes of Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon. Olson and Leaneagh’s musical bond was instant and they quickly released their debut album Give You the Ghost, of which Vernon was more than impressed — “they’re the best band I’ve ever heard,” he told Rolling Stone. Singer Channy Leaneagh uses effect pedals to manipulate her voice over Olsen’s tracks, creating a sound that has been called “psychedelic R&B.” The duo recruited two drummers and a bassist to complete their live outfit.
