National Novel Writing Month

“Write-in” meetup times and locations can be found at: http:// nanowrimo.org/en/regions/usacolorado-boulder

November can be dreary. What better time to lock yourself inside to write a novel? This month is National Novel Writing Month, or “NaNoWriMo,” and now that you’ve recovered from Halloween, there’s still time to get on board. NaNoWriMo started in 1999 and dares aspiring writers to complete a draft of a novel, at least 50,000 words, in 30 days. The project aims to inspire and encourage anyone to write a novel — first-timers and seasoned authors alike. It started with 21 participants in 1999. In 2014, more than 400,000 people nationwide joined in on the writing frenzy. Water for Elephants is one of the success stories of NaNoWriMo. A New York Times best seller and now a major motion-picture, the historical novel was published following author Sara Gruen’s participation in the project. If you’re looking for fellowship, Boulder County has a regional group that hosts daily “write-ins.” More information on these meetups can be found online.
