Così fan tutte

Friday to Saturday, March 13 to 14, Macky Auditorium, 285 University Ave., Boulder, 303- 492-8423.

Mozart’s opera Cosi fan tutte, translated as “women are like that,” follows two beautiful sisters and their adventures with men. When it premiered back in 1790, no one lifted an eyebrow at its subject matter, but 19th and 20th century operagoers considered it too vulgar. That same shift in attitude reminded University of Colorado stage director Leigh Holamn of the seemingly-scandalous romantic comedies of the late ’50s and early ’60s, such as Pillow Talk and The Facts of Life. So Holman decided to mix the two eras. At CU’s production of the classic opera, expect Mozart with a twist of Doris Day.
