VOLTA TO CLOSE WITH BANG

It’s a shame to see it go. Volta Mediterranean Restaurant, which Boulder Weekly recently reviewed (and raved about), is shutting its doors this Sunday, March 29.

“We are thankful for this opportunity to have served Boulder’s dining community,” said owners John and Eleni Deering in a press release. “We gave it all our love which makes our closing bittersweet. We will miss all our wonderful customers and friends and our special connections with our local arts community like the Dairy Center. We are not taking our closing personally, rather as a sign that it’s time to move on to new things.”

Moving on to new things will bring the Deerings to the Pacific Northwest. Before they go, however, you can celebrate their tenure at Volta. From now until Sunday, March 29, you can receive a free drink just by wishing them well on Facebook, win special prizes if you find a blue ribbon in your napkin, and request anything in the wine cellar to be opened and pay only for what you drink.

Festivities end with a bang on Sunday, which is traditionally Volta’s Greek dinner night. A Sunday brunch will be held from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and the final Greek dinner will be held from 5-9 p.m.

Volta, you will be missed.

SAUSAGE FEST

Get ready to throw on your bib and gorge yourself on meat because the Bohemian Biergarten in downtown Boulder is holding a Sausage Fest from Wednesday, April 1 to Sunday, April 5.

The fest will include a variety of unique and delicious sausages, wieners, kielbasa and more. There will also be drink specials throughout the nights.

Stop by the Biergarten between 5-10:30 p.m. during Sausage Fest to participate. For more information, call the restaurant at 720- 328-8328.

TALK ABOUT THE FUTURE OF FOOD

Dan Barber, author of The Third Plate: Field Notes on the Future of Food, will be reading and speaking about “a new way of the land and taste good, too,” at the Boulder Book Store on April 15 at 7:30 p.m.

Barber, a chef, posits that a future “third plate” will emerge in the U.S. that will combine good farming practices with healthy and positive eating standards. He says the local food movement has “failed to change how we eat,” despite being heralded as the savior of local farms and the healthy American consumer.

You can purchase a voucher in advance to take $5 off a book purchase at the store at www.boulderbookstore.com.

FARMER’S MARKET SET TO OPEN

It’s not like the super-popular Boulder County Farmer’s Markets need any announcement of their openings this year, but… the Boulder and Longmont markets open Saturday, April 4.

“Farmer sales at our markets in 2014 reached a new record, with the largest growth occurring in Longmont,” said Mark Guttridge, board president for Boulder County Farmers Markets and owner of Ollin Farms. “This year we have some exciting new vendors as well as new events going on at the markets. Customers can expect to see more chef demos, kid’s activities, community collaborations, as well as new seasonal food festivals. The recent warm weather has allowed many of our farmers to get a jump start on the season, and greenhouses and fields are already filling up with crops destined for those first markets in April.”
