DANCING AND DRINKING

Upslope Brewing Company will be hosting its second annual music festival, Upslope Get Down on Saturday, May 16 at Flatiron Park in Boulder.

The free event will feature local Boulder County food trucks and eight bands playing on two stages continuously from 1-11 p.m.

“As the temperatures begin to rise, so does our excitement for the annual Upslope Get Down music festival,” said Upslope Marketing Manager Katie Hill in a press release. “Year one was a huge success and we’re looking forward to making the second annual event bigger and better.”

Participating bands include Taylor Frederick’s Funk Circus, Rowdy Shadehouse, The Yawpers, A. Tom Collins, Technicolor Tone Factory and more.

DRINK PINK WINE

When flowers pop out of the ground seemingly overnight and the foothills turn mint green (and then quickly burn) we put away the skis and jackets and bust out the flip-flops and sunscreen. It’s also a signal that it’s time to lighten up our drinks — from smoky whiskeys to zippy margaritas, from stouts to pilsners and from super Tuscans to sweet rosé.

Thus the timing couldn’t be better for the first ever Drink Pink International Rosé Wine Festival, which will be held on June 11 at Omni Interlocken Resort’s outdoor pavilion in Broomfield.

Wine producers from around the globe will be on hand to pour more than 60 different brands to patrons. Chefs and restaurateurs will also be at the festival to serve food and chat with guests.

There will be an auction and 100 percent of its proceeds will benefit There With Care, a nonprofit that supports children and families facing medical issues.

Tickets are $65 for general admission, and $95 for VIPs. Visit www.drinkpinkvino.com to purchase tickets or for more information.

CHICKENS AND GOATS

Two otherwise unrelated events that highlight urban farming and raising livestock will take place on Saturday, April 18 in Longmont and Boulder.

First, attend a “goat baby shower” at 10:30 a.m. at Mountain Flower Goat Dairy at Long’s Gardens in Boulder. The all-ages event will feature local music, food, wine and cheese as well as goat milking demonstrations, farm tours, a goat-to-garment station, goat races, bottle feeding goat babies and more. Admission is $5.

Then at 1 p.m., Jessica Brunecky, a volunteer with the Agriculture Heritage Center in Longmont, will talk about her experience raising chickens. Anyone who has interest in raising chickens in their backyard, at any level of experience with the practice, is encouraged to attend, share stories and ask questions.

CHARITY WINE TASTING

The Callahan House in Longmont will host a wine tasting on Saturday, May 2 from 6-8 p.m. The event will benefit Boulder Preparatory High School, a free college preparatory school in Boulder County.

Attendees will be able to taste eight different wines along with appetizers. There will also be live music, a silent auction and a professional photography booth.

TOUR BOULDER COUNTY’S BEST KITCHENS

The 2015 Dream Kitchens Tour will showcase kitchens made by top architects, interior designers and home-builders on Saturday, April 25 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday April 26 from 12-4 p.m.

Almost every house on the tour will have a chef preparing food samples, and the tour will bring you around Boulder and Niwot to showcase a variety of styles and designs.

Tickets are $20 and proceeds will benefit the “I Have A Dream” foundation in Boulder County, which supports low-income youth in the area. To see a map of participating kitchens and to buy tickets, visit www.ihadboulder.org.
