PIZZA AND PINTS

Alright, embattled pizza lovers in Colorado. It’s safe to come out now.

Louisville will play host to the first ever Rocky Mountain Pizza & Pints Festival this Saturday, July 18 from 2-10 p.m. at Community Park.

The festival will pit the area’s pizzerias and breweries against one another in a taste competition, called the People’s Choice Competition. When the dust is settled, the festival will name a “Best Pizza” and a “Best Brewery” winner.

There will also be live music from Rob Drabkin and John McKay Band and games at the celebration. A $35 ticket will give you unlimited beer samples, and pizza by the slice can be bought from the pizzerias themselves.

FLAGSTAFF HOUSE WINS AGAIN

Flagstaff House, our local fine dining gem, which watches down on us from on high like a protective eagle mother, has won Wine Spectator’s Grand Award for the 32nd year in a row.

The Grand Award honors wine programs in restaurants worldwide. Around the globe, only 81 restaurants in total took home the Grand Award this year. Wine Spectator looks for restaurants that have “serious breadth of top producers, outstanding depth in mature vintages, a selection of large-format bottles, excellent harmony with the menu and superior organization, presentation and wine service.”

Flagstaff House will again be featured in the magazine along with the other winners in the August issue, which hits newsstands on July 21.

FEED: WILD

The next installment of the FEED series is set to hit Lone Hawk Farms in Longmont on July 18 and 19 at 6 p.m.

The series pairs food with contemporary theater in a way unlike anything you can imagine. It’s a fully comprehensive, immersive experience for the attendee. This year, the program features foods from the wild summer — anything foraged and anything local — and dance, theater and music performances from The Catamounts and Control Group Productions. The performances will focus on “the time when the veil between our world and the wild beyond is thinnest.”

Meanwhile, Graham Steinruck and Nick Martinez, chefs at Hunt & Gather: Wildcrafted Foods, will be serving a four-course meal. Unique beverage combinations will also be provided.

Tickets are $85 and can be purchased at www.brownpapertickets.com.

NEW BREWERS AT DRY DOCK

Aurora’s Dry Dock Brewing Company recently announced two new brewers will take the helm of their two breweries.

Alan Simons started as a homebrewer before becoming a Backcountry Beer brewer (in Frisco). Simons will man the North Dock brewery. Tim Evon was a Utah homebrewer, earned his Master Brewer Certification and brewed at Bohemian Brewery before getting the nod from Dry Dock.

Even if you don’t make it down to Aurora, it’s always good to hear that whatever passion you’re working on in your basement or garage can one day turn into your full-time job.
