Craft beer sippers to finish out summer

0

In the summertime, people drink more beer, and we drink more session beers. Session beers could be any style, but have relatively low alcohol (usually around or below 5 percent ABV), and therefore, they make it easy to toss back a few. Many of our local breweries have been kind enough to offer up session beers for us to sip on all summer long. We put a call out to local brewers to tell us what they’ll be serving this summer and here’s what they recommended:

FATE BREWING COMPANY

Watermelon Laimas Kölsch Style Ale, 5 percent ABV

Where: FATE’s brewpub and in 16oz cans at regional retail outlets.

“It’s our 2014 Great American Beer Festival Gold medal winning Laimas Kölsch Style Ale infused with fresh watermelon puree. Mike Lawinski, FATE Brewing Company owner, described it as ‘Unique, sessionable and extraordinarily refreshing. It’s the ultimate sun, 80 plus degree day beer.’” — Alyssa Lundgren, FATE brand manager

FINKEL & GARF BREWING COMPANY

Peach Wheat, 4.7 percent ABV

Where: Finkel & Garf taproom.

Released next week in six-packs at local liquor stores as well as the taproom.

“This Wheat Ale Brewed with Peach Puree is the beer you want on a beautiful summer day. The Wheat is not overly sweet. It’s slightly tart and super refreshing.” — Brewery Owner, Dan Garfinkel

THE POST BREWING COMPANY

Howdy Beer, 4.5 percent ABV

Where: On draft at The Post as well as Zolo, Jax, Centro, West End Tavern and the Lazy Dog. Available this summer in local liquor stores in six-packs of 12 ounce cans.

“The All-American Pilsener’s light, crisp malt flavor, fruity and slightly peppery hop aroma, balanced bitterness and gentle acidity wash away the heat of the day. It is the perfect companion to just about any activity that generates sweat, even if just sitting around having a Howdy with your friends is such an activity.” — Bryan Selders, The Post brewmaster

WILD WOODS BREWERY

Berrypatch Wheat, 5.5 percent ABV

Where: At the Wild Woods Brewery taproom.

“It’s an American style wheat beer that’s light, crisp, and slightly tart yet slightly sweet. All natural strawberry puree is then added during a secondary fermentation stage. It’s inspired by many hikes where we stopped to pick these wild berries.” — Wild Woods Owner Erin Evans

UPSLOPE BREWING COMPANY

Craft Lager, 4.8 percent ABV

Where: Upslope taprooms, regional bars/restaurants, in six-packs and now 12-packs.

“It is a clean and light-bodied premium American lager. While you’re enjoying it, you’re actually helping protect local watersheds. One percent of revenues from sales of Craft Lager cans are donated to local chapters of the conservation organization Trout Unlimited.” — Katie Hill, Upslope marketing manager

OSKAR BLUES BREWERY

Pinner Throwback IPA, 5.9 percent ABV

Where: Your local liquor store

“This drinkable IPA uses several varieties of hops to target the everevolving flavor. With tropical fruits, citrus juices, pineapple and spice berry up front in the aroma and flavor, the biscuit and toasted bread at the back balance out all the hops and make a great finish.” — Chad Melis, Oskar Blues marketing director
