JACKED UP AND ON A BIKE

Ever wanted to walk around town so high on caffeine that your brain starts to melt out your ears? If so, then the fourth annual Caffeine Crawl has what you’re looking for.

Ten coffee and tea shops in Boulder will participate in the event on Saturday, Aug. 8. Participating shops include Ozo Coffee Roasters, Buchanan’s Coffee Pub, The Coffee Ride, The Cup, Innisfree Poetry Bookstore and Cafe, Pekoe Sip House, Trident Booksellers and Café and The Unseen Bean. The chocolate shop Piece, Love and Chocolate will also be participating.

Tickets include an event packet, crawlthemed knickknacks, and admittance to all the stops on the tour, which includes a drink or chocolate sample. Each shop will come up with what drink they will serve. You will be responsible for transportation, but the crawl includes a map for participants.

There are five separate routes in Boulder; three of which can be biked and two are meant for walking. After the event ends at 5 p.m., there will be a party at Upslope Brewing, sponsored by Dragonfly Roasters.

Tickets are $20-$27 depending on the route and can be purchased at www.caffeinecrawl.com.

BARBECUE AND BLUES

The Georgia Boys BBQ Frederick outpost will be hosting “Blues, Brews and BBQ — A Southern Family Affair,” on Aug. 15 at Crist Park in Frederick.

The event will feature tons of barbecue, a watermelon eating contest, a pie-eating contest, live music and more. Beer will be provided by a handful of local brewers.

Tickets at $50 get you a VIP pass, and an extra hour for barbecue and beer. Regular tickets at $25 get you in with everyone else. Kids under 12 are free to enter. For tickets or more information, visit www.georgiaboysbbqcompany.com.

MORE WINE AWARDS FOR BOULDER COUNTY

Wine Spectator magazine announced earlier this month that Flagstaff House earned one of 81 Grand Awards for their excellent wine program. The magazine also announced other winners recently and Boulder County is well-represented in the Colorado local awards.

Black Cat Farm Table Bistro, Frasca Food and Wine and The Greenbriar Inn each earned two out of three stars for their wine service and program. Jill’s Restaurant and the now closed Volta Mediterranean Restaurant earned one star for their programs.

The full list of national awards are available in this month’s issue of Wine Spectator.

PIZZA AND PHILANTHROPY

A new pizza restaurant, “PizzaRev,” is celebrating its grand opening in Boulder on Aug. 13 from 11 a.m. – 10 p.m. by partnering with local charities.

PizzaRev, a “build your own,” pizza chain, will donate 100 percent of the proceeds from Aug. 13’s opening to giveSPORTS, a local partnership between the I Have A Dream Foundation of Boulder County and the group A Precious Child. The money raised will help fund giveSPORTS’ mission to provide lightly used sports equipment and fee scholarships to children in the area.

The event will allow customers to “pay what they want,” instead of the restaurant’s regular pricing. Attendees will get their first taste of the California chain’s brand of pizza offerings, which include a bunch of sauces and toppings, and gluten-free crusts.

For more information on the event, visit www.pizzarev.com.
