MILLIONS OF PEACHES, PEACHES FOR ME

The 16th annual Lafayette Peach Festival returns this weekend from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Saturday, August 15 in Old Town Lafayette.

This year’s festival will be bigger and better than ever; all in honor of that glorious crop we call the peach. Peach pies, cobblers, ice creams, smoothies and more will be available at the festival. About 30,000 pounds of organic peaches from Morton’s Orchards in Palisade will be for sale by the box at four locations throughout the festival.

At Festival Plaza, which is in front of the main stage (near Lafayette Florist), 500 fresh peach pies and 100 cobbler trays will be divvied and sold to those who get there in time. About 2,500 peach smoothies will be served there, too.

There’s also going to be activities like face painting, balloon sculpting, live music, non-peach food and drink vendors and more. The farmers’ market coincides with the festival so you can go ahead and pick up a whole mess of ingredients and whip up a peach-centric meal for yourself.

BEER AND RUNNING GO TOGETHER, APPARENTLY, LIKE PEAS AND CARROTS

The 2015 Craft Brew Races, which marries craft beer with running nationwide, is coming to Boulder this weekend on Saturday, August 15 from 12-4 p.m.

The event features a 5k race followed by a local craft beer festival. The race will be run around Boulder Reservoir, and the festival takes place five kilometers later at the end of the race. A separate ticket to the beer festival is available to anyone who doesn’t want to run a 5k for their beer.

Participating breweries include City Star, The Post, Oskar Blues, Sanitas, Ska Brewing, Pug Ryan’s, Great Divide and many more. Tickets for the race and brewfest are $55 when purchased online before August 14, or you can buy them onsite for $65. Tickets for just the beer festival are $10 less. For tickets or more information, visit www.craftbrewraces.com/boulder.

SPICY FOOD SHOWDOWN

300 Suns Brewing in Longmont is hosting the Chili and Salsa Cookoff on Saturday, August 15 from 2-5 p.m.

It’s a family-friendly event that welcomes anyone with a killer chili or salsa recipe to compete for the title. There will be a panel of judges to walk around and decide on a winner, and a “People’s Choice” winner for best salsa and best chili will also be named.

Best of all is that proceeds from ticket sales to the event will be donated to the Longmont Humane Society, and $1 from every beer sold will be added to that total.

Speaking of beer, 300 Suns will be serving their brews in the festival area. There will also be live music, a dunk tank and a whole lot of giveaways.

The $5 ticket gets you unlimited chili and salsa samples, while supplies last, and a vote in the People’s Choice contest. You can buy extra tickets for more votes if you feel strongly about a particular salsa or chili. It has happened to the best of us.
