The Auspicious Adventures of an Improbable Princess

2 and 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15, Boulder Public Library, 1001 Arapahoe Ave., 303-441-3100.

Inspired by traditional Indonesian shadow puppets and the otherworldly characters of the Hindu epic the Mahabharata, comes the premiere of an original shadow puppet performance. Designed, created and directed by Betsy Tobin, the performance tells the story of a woman’s transformation through everyday events and adventures that thrust her into an unknown metaphysical realm featuring animals, demons and spirits. The vivid imagery and multi-layered storytelling is sure to appeal to a wide audience. Tobin is assisted in the show by Kathryn Moller and in recent years, the two have studied traditional Indonesian shadow puppetry, wayang kulit, in Bali where the story took root. Featuring an original Balinese musical score composed and performed live by Jesse Manno, these auspicious adventures will enchant and intrigue viewers.
