City of Boulder moving its caboose

The City of Boulder’s Parks and Recreation Department moved a historic caboose from the Boulder County Railway Historical Society grounds near 63rd and Valmont roads to a building at Valmont City Park on Feb. 8.

The former Denver & Rio Grande Western caboose, owned by the City of Boulder, was damaged by an arson fire while on display in Central Park in July 2007. The society members volunteered their time and labor to repair the caboose after the fire, and completed its work in December.

The Parks and Recreation Department will store the caboose inside the city park building at Valmont City Park to preserve the restoration and keep it safe until a permanent location for the city’s historic train assets has been identified.
