Police issue alcohol tickets after fall at sorority house

By Katherine Creel

Police have issued two tickets in relation to a Feb. 20 accident involving a drunken woman who fell off the roof of her sorority.

The sorority member received a ticket for minor in possession of alcohol. She received treatment for broken bones and internal injuries, but is expected to recover. This is the second MIP ticket she has received. If convicted, she faces a fine of up to $500, an alcohol evaluation and assessment, mandatory alcohol education classes and 24 hours of community service.

Police issued a second ticket to a 21-year-old man, charged with serving alcohol to a person under the age of 21, a Class 1 misdemeanor that carries a maximum penalty of 18 months imprisonment and a $5,000 fine.

Investigators determined that the woman went to a party at Theta Xi fraternity that night and consumed large quantities of alcohol, specifically beer and vodka. She then returned home to her sorority at about 12:30 a.m. where, based on evidence, it appears she slipped while attempting to walk along a third-story gutter toward an outside stairwell. She slid off the roof onto the ground just before reaching the stairwell. Two other sorority members found her and called an ambulance.
