TIDBITES | Jill's Restaurant opens new patio

Jill’s restaurant opens new patio

Jill’s Restaurant debuted its new outdoor patio on Walnut Street on July 23. Jill’s, the modern bistro located in the St. Julien Hotel & Spa, now offers street-side seating options and tables with views of the Flatirons. The additional 250-square-foot expansion features custom-made black iron railings, seven marble table tops and 14 copper chairs. Overall, Jill’s Restaurant is capable of seating 86 people, with a full bar, an outdoor patio and the Honey-Onyx Room, a private dining room.

“We get more than 300 sunny days a year in Boulder,” says Anthony Grippo, general manager of Jill’s Restaurant. “When the weather is nice, which is often, our guests like to sit outside and enjoy the spectacular views that our property has to offer.”

Eggloo, owned by Vivien Chien, took over the former Siamese Plate On the Go location and offers a selection of sushi and Thai cuisine.

Flagstaff receives awards

The Flagstaff House Restaurant is one of only two restaurants in Colorado to win a Wine Spectator Grand Award this year, and it is also the only restaurant in Colorado to be named one of Open Table’s “50 Best Restaurants” in 2010.

Its sister restaurant, Monette’s, on the big island of Hawaii, also won a Wine Spectator Grand Award after only one year of business.

Only about 100 restaurants worldwide have received the “Grand Award” by Wine Spectator, as it is given to only a few wine lists each year. The Flagstaff House, with a 20,000-bottle wine cellar, was the first in Colorado to win this award, in 1983. It has won it every year since.

“We’re astounded and deeply grateful for both of these awards,” says Executive Chef Mark Monette. “It’s wonderful to be recognized for our dedication to wine, food and customer service.”

Double punches at Ziggi’s

To help make up for the inconvenience of construction occurring on Hover Road in Longmont, Ziggi’s Drive Thru, located at the intersection of Hover Road and 17th Avenue, is offering customers double punches on their Ziggi’s punch cards. A full punch card gets a customer a free coffee beverage. The locally owned coffee outlet is a spin-off of the Ziggi’s Coffee Shop at 400 Main St. and is owned by Brandon and Camrin Knudsen. The Knudsens are hoping the double punches will motivate drivers to pass through the cone zone and into their drive-through lanes. They recently expanded their business to include the drive-through operation.

Construction on Hover Road is expected to continue for another two weeks — a pain for Ziggi’s staff but a potential boon to latte lovers.
