Tidbites | A mountain of music and beer

A mountain of music and beer

The Mountain Sun Pub & Brewery will host its “Seventeen Years of Funky Good Times” anniversary party on Saturday, Jan. 29, at the Boulder Theater. The annual celebration will feature entertainment by the ever-evolving Pearl Street All- Stars — this year featuring George Porter Jr. of the Funky Meters on bass, Kyle Hollingsworth from String Cheese Incident on keyboards, Karl Denson providing vocals and saxophone, Davy Knowles on guitar, and drummer Alan Evans from Soulive.

Each year, The Mountain Sun family of pubs — The Mountain Sun, The Southern Sun and Denver’s Vine Street Pub — says thanks to the local community with an anniversary jam. Tickets for the event are $25. The night of the event, enjoy $4 pints of Mountain Sun Kind Ale and Java Porter as well as offerings from Avery Brewing. All proceeds will benefit KGNU 88.5 FM & 1390 AM, Boulder County’s only nonprofit community radio station. The show kicks off at 8:30 p.m., and is 21 and older only. Tickets are available at all Mountain Sun Pub locations and at the Boulder Theater box office, as well as online at www.bouldertheater.com.

Sing for your supper

Never Summer and Wahoo’s Fish Taco have teamed up to offer a chance to win the choice of either a 2010-11 Never Summer snowboard or a year’s supply of Wahoo’s Fish Tacos, all for writing a jingle. To win either of the two grand prizes, participants must create a 30- to 60-second song that focuses on the theme that Wahoo’s is “More than fish, more than tacos.”

The idea is to inform potential customers that the restaurant has more than just fish tacos, contrary to the restaurant’s name and popular belief.

“Depending on the outcome of the contest, we may feature the winning jingle in a radio campaign,” says Wahoo’s owner Michael Donnelly.

The winning jingle will be selected based on originality, humor and how well it relates to the theme. The contest runs through Feb. 28. Instructions for jingle submission can be found on the Wahoo’s Fish Taco Facebook fan page at www.facebook. com/wahooscoloradofans. Every entry will receive a free #1 combo, which includes a taco or enchilada and a side of rice and beans.
