Arrests made in February Hill assault

By Boulder Weekly Staff

Boulder police arrested three men on April 29 in connection with an assault that took place in February after a snowball-throwing incident in the 900 block of 13th Street.

A group of young people walking home a little before midnight on Feb. 19 were throwing snowballs at each other across 13th Street and over a dark-colored Jeep Grand Cherokee, which was stopped at a stop sign. Witnesses say the Jeep started down the road, but made a U-turn about a block away and came back toward the group.

According to witnesses, a man jumped out of the Jeep and hit one of the male members of the group across the face with a liquor bottle, cutting his face and causing him serious bodily injury.

Orlando Bustamante-Bello, 22, was arrested at the Millenium Hotel on April 29 on suspicion of first-degree assault in the case. He was taken to the Boulder County Jail, where bail was set at $20,000.

The driver and passenger in the Jeep also face charges, police said. Initially, they told police they picked up an acquaintance and gave him a ride, and that the acquaintance was the attacker. They later admitted that they had lied to police to protect their friend, Bustamante-Bello. Adam Nedelka, 21, and Danny Goldberg, 21, were arrested April 29 on suspicion of being accessories to the crime.

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call Det. Heather Frey at 303-441-3369. Those who have information but wish to remain anonymous may contact the Northern Colorado Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or 1-800-444-3776.  Tips can also be submitted via the Crime Stoppers website at www.crimeshurt.com. Those submitting tips through Crime Stoppers that lead to the arrest and filing of charges on a suspect(s) may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000 from Crime Stoppers.
