Alfalfa’s revives pancake breakfast

Alfalfa’s in Boulder is bringing back its Pancake Breakfast to benefit Community Food Share.

The event will be held in the Alfalfa’s parking lot on Saturday, July 30, from 7 to 10 a.m. Admission is $7 for adults and $3 for kids 10 and under. The event features live music and all-you-can-eat pancakes, bacon, sausage, eggs, coffee, juice and other breakfast treats, including vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options.

“This was always one of our most popular events at Alfalfa’s, and we had a great run doing it for 11 years, from 1985 to 1996,” says Paul Gingerich, culinary director for Alfalfa’s.

Community Food Share distributes free food to those in need through a network of 56 member agencies and several direct-service programs targeting specific at-risk populations such as low-income seniors and families with children enrolled in the school free lunch program.

“At Community Food Share, we rely on the generosity of businesses like Alfalfa’s to help us raise funds, which allows us to continue to fight hunger in our community,” says Jim Baldwin, CEO of Community Food Share. “The Alfalfa’s Pancake Breakfast was always a favorite event in the Boulder community, and we are excited that it is coming back.”

Boulder Granola grows

Boulder Granola, a Boulder-based line of 100 percent organic granola launched seven months ago, is now available in more than 50 Colorado retailers and local restaurants.

“I’m amazed at how quickly Boulder Granola has expanded,” says Jody Nagel, company founder and “Head Hippie.” “Being able to bring a totally organic granola to not only Boulder, but to Colorado, has been an amazing experience, and is something that I feel great about. I look forward to spreading our quality granola beyond just Boulder and increasing sales through our various distribution channels.”

Boulder Granola is being billed as the “most authentic, highest-quality granola available in Colorado,” and as something to “Unleash your Inner Hippie.”

Based on Nagel’s mother’s original recipe, the organic granola blends oats, nuts and seeds with lightly sweetened, pure maple syrup. It is available in four flavors: Original, Cranberry, Chocolate Chip and Certified Gluten-Free Original.

New Twisted barleywine on tap

Twisted Pine Brewing Company unveiled its Bough Breaker barleywine at its 16th anniversary party on July 16.

The American-style barleywine is a deep, rich red with aromas of citrus hops, dark fruit and light toffee.

“At 9 percent ABV and 120 IBU, this beer is the perfect candidate for a lengthy rest in any beer lover’s basement,” brewery owner Bob Baile says, adding, “but with a beer this tasty, the temptation to drink it right away is often too great.”

While Twisted Pine has brewed other barleywines in the past, those were small batches destined for distribution solely at the brewery’s ale house. Bough Breaker is the first of its style packaged by the brewery for widespread release.
