Hearing on district lines Aug. 23
The Board of County Commissioners is conducting a survey on proposed district boundaries for Boulder County and will hold a public hearing on Aug. 23.
Per state statute, county commissioners’ districts must be revised after each census to assure roughly equal populations per district. Boulder County is divided into three districts, and one commissioner is elected from each district by the whole county.
Even though commissioners are elected countywide, they must reside in the district that they represent, meaning that each commissioner must live in a unique district from the other two.
The hearing will be held at 3 p.m. in the Commissioners Hearing Room at the Courthouse in Boulder, at 1325 Pearl St.
Four district options have been developed and are available for review and comment. Residents may also suggest alternate options through the online survey or at the public hearing on Aug. 23.

NoBo Rec Center closed
The North Boulder Recreation Center at 3170 Broadway was closed this week for annual maintenance and improvements, and will reopen on Aug. 29.
This year’s project list includes preventative maintenance on all mechanical equipment, replacement of the diving board, deep cleaning of the facility and refinishing wood floors.
The East and South Boulder Recreation Centers, as well as Scott Carpenter Pool, Spruce Pool and the Boulder Reservoir, will be open regular hours during this time. For complete facility schedules, visit www. BoulderParks-Rec.org.
Plein art on display
Boulder County Parks and Open Space will kick off an art exhibit in honor of the county’s 150th anniversary on Friday, Aug. 19, with an opening reception.
The reception for the “Plein Air Art Exhibit,” which will be on display until Sept. 3 at the Old Firehouse Art Center at 667 4th Ave. in Longmont, will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. at the center.
Twenty Boulder County artists who were either invited or chosen by a jury ventured onto county open space land for two weeks in June to create the artwork.
Prizes will be awarded at the reception, including a special honor awarded by the Boulder County Commissioners in celebration of the 150th anniversary.
Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays.

State Dems host forums
Three Democratic state legislators from Boulder County will host a town hall meeting about education funding in Colorado on Saturday, Aug. 20.
Reps. Claire Levy of Boulder, Deb Gardner of Longmont and Dickey Lee Hullinghorst of Gunbarrel will discuss everything from yearly budget cuts to recent litigation over inadequate funding.
They will be joined by Kathleen Gebhardt, an education advocate and litigator who will discuss the Lobato vs. State of Colorado school funding lawsuit.
The meeting will be held from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Boulder Public Library’s Meadows Branch at 4800 Baseline Rd. In addition, at 7:30 a.m. on Aug. 23, state Sen. Rollie Heath will host a “Know Your Resources” forum for small-business owners at the Boulder Chamber of Commerce (2440 Pearl St.). Speakers will be on hand to discuss topics such as access to capital, business services, health care exchanges and finding and training employees.
BNC rolls Saturday
The annual Boulder Nites Classic, a family bicycle benefit, will be held on Saturday, Aug. 20, at the Twenty Ninth Street Mall.
Festivities begin at 5:30 p.m. with a BNC Event Expo. The nine-mile ride, which starts at 7 p.m., starts and finishes at the mall.
Beneficiaries of the Boulder Nites Classic include the PLAY Boulder Foundation, the City of Boulder Youth Services Initiative, and the EXPAND program.
