Heath seeks re-election to state Senate

By Boulder Weekly Staff

State Sen. Rollie Heath, D-Boulder, formally kicked off his 2012 reelection bid on Wednesday.

Heath, who represents Senate District 18, was the primary proponent of Proposition 103, the unsuccessful state ballot measure that would have inched up state income tax and sales tax for five years to generate $3 billion in funding for education.

Heath took office in 2009. He has been a prime Senate sponsor of more than 50 successful bills and resolutions, and was a member of the 2008-09 Joint Select Committee on Job Creation and Economic Growth. He chaired the 2009 interim Long-Term Fiscal Stability Commission.

Among his bills signed into law was 2010 legislation aimed at bolstering mobile home park residents’ rights and park owner responsibilities.

Heath was the vice-chair of the Senate Business, Labor and Technology Committee and served on the Education and Finance Committees in 2009. He was named the chair of the Senate State, Veterans and Military Affairs Committee in 2010, and served on the Education and Appropriations committees in 2010 and 2011.
