MEAT, MEET CHEESE
Boulder cheese shop Cured will offer a course from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on March 29 entitled “Cheese and Meat, a Love Affair.”
We heard from condiments that cheese and meat weren’t together any more, and condiments said they heard from grains that tea actually saw meat with vegetables. But perhaps this class can reignite what cheese and meat once had. If not, sparks will fly.
The course, $40 per person, is open to the public.
Attendees will learn which cheese and meats should be paired and which should be avoided, and they’ll receive 10 percent off anything in Cured. Reservations can be made at 720-389-8096.
A HOUSE OF CAKE
Longmont commuters looking for more than just a bagel will soon have a local option with European flair.
Romana Cake House, a family-owned European-style bakery, will open the first week of April at 900 S. Hover Road in Longmont. The bakery and café will offer traditional cakes, pastries and coffees, as well as cakes for birthdays, weddings and graduations.
Romana’s co-owners, Robertino and Raluca Ioan, hail from Romania, where German and French influences shaped their pastries. Both are graduates of the University of Colorado Boulder, and the couple has worked in Longmont for 15 years in other professions.
WYNKOOP TAPS NEW BEER
Denver’s Wynkoop Brewing Company will release a new limitededition beer March 30 in conjunction with the start of April, Earth Month.
The release, brewed in honor of the Cottonwood Institute, is set for 5 p.m. at the Wynkoop brewpub in the LoDo district in Denver.
The Cottonwood Institute is an eight-year-old Denver-based nonprofit that aims to guide young people “to initiate positive change in their schools, their communities and the environment in order to strengthen their civic engagement, environmental stewardship and leadership skills,” the group’s website says.
The new beverage, Cottonwood Organic White, is an Americanstyle wheat beer. The beer will be served at Wynkoop throughout April.
