IT’S CRAFTY, SO GET AROUND

Boulder Beer Company marks American Craft Beer Week May 14-20 with special events, beer and food celebrating all the little fish in the big pond of brewing.

At its local pub and other locations, Boulder Beer will kick off the week with a simultap toast of its Flashback India Brown Ale on May 14. Taps will pour at 4:20 p.m. with a nitrogen-infused version of the award-winning black IPA.

There will be a week’s worth of special menu items, including Italian sausage made with Singletrack Copper Ale and Tenderloin Tips marinated in cognacbarrel-aged Obovoid Stout.

For dessert, Boulder Beer teamed up with Shamane’s Bake Shoppe to make a blueberry cheesecake infused with Kinda Blue wheat beer.

The culmination of the week will be when Boulder Beer replaces its 12 taps with barrel-aged and pilot brews at noon on Saturday, May 19, while simultaneously kicking off its summer music series with Grateful Dead cover band All Dead. For $10, impatient imbibers can show up an hour early for a VIP tasting of the specialty beers, which will be replaced by standards like Singletrack as the day progresses.

For a unique take on taking your foodstuffs with you, Boulder Granola has a jarring new idea. In addition to traditional bags, the local purveyor will be offering its 100 percent organic granola in hippie-decorated mason jars.

Customers can make a deposit to take home their own jar, which can be refilled with bulk granola at the Boulder Farmers’ Market throughout the summer. At the end of the season, get your deposit back or save your decorative glass and happy thoughts for supporting local businesses and the environment.

GET PICKLED TINK OVER THESE NEW FOOD CREATIONS

The Esoteric Food Company, a Boulder-based team of “mom-entrepreneurs,” will be sampling its first distributed product this season at the Boulder Farmers’ Market.

Zuké Pickled Things includes two varieties of sauerkraut, a kim chi and pickled beets — all of which are raw, vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free and priobiotic-rich. The natural food startup has contracts to distribute at Alfalfa’s and Whole Foods Markets in the Rocky Mountain region.

Stop by Saturday, May 12, at the Farmers’ Market to taste the Zuké products, which go well with eggs, picnics and grilled meals.
