Spotify to be free for iOS users in US, Android likely to follow

While working, I constantly have music bumping here at the Oakland bureau of Ars (aka, my home office). More often than not, my stream of choice is set to Minnesota Public Radio’s The Current. But I know that the kids these days are all about Rdio, Pandora, and of course, Spotify.

The Swedish startup will soon launch its latest volley in the online music wars: in the coming days, iOS users in the United States will be able listen to the Pandora-like radio service on their iPhones and iPads entirely for free. (Premium users, of course, will get the ad-free version). The update to the app will have a thumbs-up and thumbs-down feature, as a way to feed the recommendation algorithm.
