Romney bashes Obama, defends vacation

In a press conference timed as a response to Friday’s latest national jobs report, Mitt Romney continued to criticize President Obama’s economic policies in general and also defended his decision to leave the campaign trail for a family vacation — a move that has been widely criticized within the GOP.

“I’m delighted to be able to take a vacation with my family. I think all Americans appreciate the memories they have with their children and their grandchildren. I hope that more Americans are able to take vacation,” Romney said from Wolfeboro, N.H., trying to flip the implied criticism into a promise to create more jobs. “Part of a good job is the capacity to take a vacation.”

The main purpose behind the session with reporters — one of the longest Romney has held since the end of the primary season — was to bash Obama’s job record. “This kick in the gut has got to end,” Romney said. “The president’s policies have clearly not been successful at reigniting this economy, putting people back to work and opening up plants manufacturing across the country,” Romney said.
