Mad Men is on track to become the most honored drama in TV
history after snagging its fifth nomination for Best Drama Series at the
64th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards nomination ceremony this morning.

The AMC show has won the award the past four years, tying with The West Wing, Hill Street Blues and L.A. Law for most drama series trophies. Mad Men tied the miniseries American Horror Story for the most nominations with 17; other big winners were Downton Abbey, PBS’s beloved upstairs/downstairs drama, which nabbed 16 nods, and the hit sitcom Modern Family, which notched 14.

In the drama category, Mad Men will compete against some old foes including Boardwalk Empire, Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones, as well as first-time nominees Homeland and Downton Abbey (that show was nominated last year, but in the Miniseries or Movie category, which it won).
