Unless you have been living under a rock, you must be aware of the hard work Colorado firefighters have put in all summer. Here’s your chance to thank them. To culminate the end of Firefighter Appreciation Week, the Twenty-Ninth Street Mall in Boulder will be hosting the Fight Fire with Beer Festival Sept. 15.
The festival will feature some local brews, food and live music. Not only will you have the chance to personally thank some of Colorado’s firefighters, but all proceeds from the event benefit the Colorado Fire Relief Fund. Not a bad deal.
Some other activities include a 2-mile road race, a brew competition for the 10 local breweries that will be attending and the chance to interact with some firefighting equipment.

BEE THERE FOR BEE SQUARED
Turns out you don’t have to buy honey from the grocery store this month. In celebration of National Honey Month, Cured has invited Beth Conrey of Bee Squared Honey to host an in-store honey extraction. Conrey will be setting up a hive and will give guests an opportunity to extract their own jar of honey. Protective equipment will be provided for the extractions.
Also, if you’ve ever been curious about beekeeping, here’s your chance to learn. Conrey is the president of the Colorado Beekeeping Society and will be informing guests about what being a beekeeper entails.

DRINK A LITTLE SOMETHING DIFFERENT
Tequila is the most popular product made from Weber Blue Agave, but few know that there is another popular beverage in Mexico that comes from the agave plant: mezcal. Mezcal is made from a different strain of agave, which is roasted to give the beverage a very different flavor from traditional tequila. Boulder Wine Merchant has invited Richard Betts to host a free in-store tasting from noon-3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15. The event will feature tasting of the mezcal and margaritas.

SUSTAINABLY FUN
The 13th Sustainable Living Fair will take place 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Sept. 15 and 16 at Legacy Park in Fort Collins. It’s a bit of a trip, but it’s also the largest fair of its kind in the Rocky Mountain region and offers a weekend of events dedicated to sustainable practices such as renewable energy, natural health and local agriculture.
The main features include four keynote speakers, 250 exhibitors and vendors, 75 workshops, several on-hand demonstrations, an alternative fuel vehicle showcase and, of course, plenty of local food and beer.
A one-day pass costs $8 or $16 for the whole weekend. Kids under 12 are free.
