The long Romney-Monsanto romance

As much as he runs on his business record, not a lot is really known about Republican Mitt Romney’s business record.

In particular, Romney’s extensive ties to Monsanto need more attention. It’s important not just because Romney’s record is mysterious, but because a president who’s such good buddies with a virulently anti-environment company would spell trouble for environmentalists (and the Earth).

Romney’s history with Monsanto starts in 1977, when he joined Bain, but it can best be represented in one fact: Monsanto’s former CEO, John W. Hanley, contributed $1 million to start Bain Capital and keep Romney at Bain.
