Winter storms will now have names, Weather Channel announces

It's simple marketing strategy, really: If you want something to catch on and be talked about, give it a memorable name. A brand.

That could be the thinking behind a new Weather Channel decision: Winter storms will now have names just like tropical storms and hurricanes.

The idea, which will start this winter, will raise awareness of storms and aid with readiness, according to a Weather Channel statement. That could be true, but it can't hurt that #Brianna or #David will get trending on Twitter a lot quicker than "snowstorm in Indiana/Ohio/Maine."
