So, last week I gave you a “healthy” muffin recipe. I must say, I got a great response and decided I shall become the Muffin Man, I mean the Muffin Woman. I already have a muffin top, so I have a jump-start. Come on, that’s funny.

Alas, the new year is here. Time to go out and discover that everything you purchased for the holidays is now at rock-bottom prices. Such a great feeling.

Holy Snickerdoodles — 2010 is upon us! Time for all that lovely resolution-making. I resolved long ago to stop making them (not Snickerdoodles, resolutions). So far so good. Yay for me. It’s so nice to know that when the end of January rolls around and I’m still spiking my coffee, watching bad reality TV and pretending to exercise, I can look in the mirror and not be disappointed with myself. … I’m OK, you’re OK. I’m just waiting for the advice column offers to pour in — I’m very inspirational, you know.

Well, the holiday spirit finally beat me down. As I sit here, ready to share my ever-fascinating facts about nothing, I am in pain. Yes, pain.

Now, who doesn’t love them some Frosty? Not the Wendy’s cool concoction but the ever-lovable Frosty the Snowman. Magical, friendly and very politically correct, that one. You can break out Frosty plates, napkins and of course cookies at just about any party in December and all’s well.

Dear almighty weather person, please warm this joint up! Yes, yes, it’s just beautiful. The snow covering the Flatirons is like frosting on a cupcake. The holiday lights twinkling through the cold white stuff is like something out of a fairytale. But what about my fingers and my toes and the roads — good gravy, the roads! Come on people. Boulder is full of geniuses and scientists. Let’s come up with a recipe that prevents ice from forming on our lovely streets. If someone can do that, I will make them desserts for life. I know it’s quite the payoff.

So, pumpkin month is over, and I’m sure there’s not a dry eye in the house. Not to worry, December will be full of pleasing, simple desserts that will have your house smelling festive and neighbors knocking on your door. Just pull the ol’ “I’m asleep” trick if neighbors knocking on your door doesn’t appeal to you, or do what I do and talk to yourself every time you are outside. I don’t care how good your kitchen smells, they won’t be knocking.
