Mozilla today announced that its standalone, mobile operating system will be known as Firefox OS, with TCL Communication Technology and ZTE as its first manufacturing partners.

Sony Computer Entertainment announced today that it has acquired the prominent interactive cloud-based gaming company, Gaikai, for approximately $380 million.

Apple has agreed to pay $60 million to China-based Proview over the iPad trademark in China after numerous back-and-forths in court. Although Apple claims it has owned the iPad trademark in China since at least 2010, Proview won a series of Chinese courts decisions throughout 2011. Apple took the case higher up the chain and even battled Proview in the US for a while, but apparently decided to put the case to rest as of June 25.

Analysts anticipated another miss ahead of Research In Motion’s first-quarter earnings report on Thursday as sales continue to stall ahead of the struggling smartphone vendor’s first BlackBerry 10 smartphone launch, which is expected this October. RIM warned in late May that it would likely see an operating loss in the first fiscal quarter — its first net quarterly loss since fiscal 2004 — but the Street’s consensus ranged from a profit of $0.01 per share on $3.1 billion in sales to a net loss of $0.03 per share. The numbers are now in and RIM reported on Thursday that it lost $0.37 per share on revenue of $2.8 billion.

Google unveiled its own Nexus tablet, the Nexus 7, at the Google I/O conference Wednesday in San Francisco. The 7-inch tablet running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean will have a 1.3GHz quad-core Tegra 3 processor as well as a 1280x800 IPS display with a 178-degree viewing angle.

Samsung's Galaxy S3 is expected to be a sales juggernaut, according to a new report. Speaking to Reuters in an interview published yesterday, Samsung telecommunications chief JK Shin said that he expects Galaxy S3 sales to reach 10 million units during July. Samsung typically calls devices it shipped "sales," since the products have been sold into the retail channel, so it's not immediately clear if Shin's Galaxy S3 figure is actual sales to consumers or simply units shipped.
