Despite a dismal year in film, these 10 are worth watching

How bad of a year was it for movies? As late as August, I was wondering if there would be enough films to fill a list of 10. Then came the fall movie season and everything changed. Overall, 2011 will be remembered as a mediocre year for cinema. But the bright spots burned really, really bright. These 10 films from 2011 were very worthwhile.

'Shutter Island' star Leonardo DiCaprio on why he keeps working for Martin Scorsese

"Shutter Island" marks Leonardo DiCaprio's fourth collaboration with director Martin Scorsese. It may also be his most intense, which says a lot when you consider that their previous three films were "Gangs of New York," "The Aviator" and "The Departed."

The movie year in review

Paul Newman died, James Cameron came out of retirement and Quentin Tarantino proved he was more than a junk-movie repository. 2009 wasn't a great year for movies, but the good ones had an air of timelessness. They will endure long after the "Twilight" and "Transformers" sequels, two of the highest-grossing films of the year.
