Former ‘Walking Dead’ writer Darabont joins team for ‘Godzilla’

OK, so maybe in the classic Japanese Godzilla films, writing wasn’t the strong suit.

But these days, when giant monsters on the screen really don’t do it for viewers as reliably, a new Godzilla is going to need powerful dialogue, compelling characters and a real story other than “lizard steps on things.”

That’s the reason Legendary Pictures has decided to hire Frank Darabont, the writer who helped make TV’s The Walking Dead massively popular and who wrote the film script for Shawshank Redemption, as a writer for its new Godzilla project.
