HOUSE VOTE EXPOSES MORE OIL INDUSTRY AND POLITICIAN LIES
We’ve previously examined the hilarious claim that the oil and gas industry and its politician supporters are really only drilling the hell out of our neighborhoods because they want to keep us safe by making America energy independent. Of course we found these claims completely false. From the draping of every drilling rig with an American flag to those obnoxious, lying TV commercials where the blonde, planet-hating model tells us fracking is making us energy independent, it’s all one big industry lie and now Congress has finally proved it.
Last Friday, under heavy pressure from the industry, the House voted to lift the 40-yearold ban on oil exports. The ban was put into place following the Arab oil embargo of the 1970s. The reason we made it law that oil produced in the U.S. had to be used here was for the exact reason of making us more energy independent. And now the ever-lying oil industry wants to make us less energy independent by exporting our oil to Japan and China and Europe while still importing Middle East oil.
This isn’t a surprise. BW reported that this was the industry’s intention all along two years ago. Along with our pal Jim Hightower, we were even ridiculed by an energy columnist at Forbes for making such a suggestion.
So let us explain it one more time. A good portion of the drilling right here in Colorado is being paid for by companies from other countries who want Weld and Boulder County oil to be shipped overseas. In exchange for all this drilling, foreign countries get the oil, the oil industry gets the profits and all we get is the contamination, the lost property values and a major loss of quality of life… oh, and did we mention the planet dies?
If you think this sucks, then stop whining and start recalling and/or voting out politicians like Hickenlooper, Bennet, Gardner and Buck, and frankly most of their Democratic and Republican peers at the state level. These are the hired liars the industry pays to wield the phrase “energy independence” like a knife against a citizenry that too often puts patriotism ahead of sound judgment.
If you don’t have time to figure out which politicians are bought and paid for by the oil and gas industry, just vote against any politician who accepts money from Colorado Concern or any of its 118 members. Do that and we just might return to a democracy some day.
HOW DID WE BECOME SO POLITICALLY STUPID?
The simple answer is, “we had help.”
A recent report found an interesting comparison in television news reporting when it came to 2016 presidential candidates.
The research found that network news outlets have run approximately 80 minutes of news coverage on Republican Donald Trump compared to approximately 30 seconds of air time for Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders. That’s right, the mainstream media has force fed us Donald Trump 160 times more often than they have let us even hear the name Bernie Sanders. The media keeps claiming
that Trump is turning the 2016 presidential race into something akin to reality TV, something far less serious than it should be. They even report that all this Trump coverage could be damaging to our free society.
Hey asshats look in the mirror. Trump is only doing what you allow him to do.
If Islamophobia and anti-immigrant sentiment is on the rise, it’s as much or even more the fault of the media as it is the racist, fascist candidates running for office.
If the formula is to give the most air time to the most ignorant, horrible candidates, then Bernie only getting 30 seconds must mean he’s the most qualified person to lead the free world.
