CULTURE JAM IN LONGMONT

Longmont will play host to Left Hand Brewing Company’s Culture Jam festival on Saturday, June 6 from 5-10 p.m. at the brewery. The event will feature live music, community art events and exhibits, food from local vendors and Left Hand brews on tap.

The music represents a global scene and includes performances by 2014 Grammy Award-winning Latin rock band La Santa Cecilia, Afro-Fusion artist Paa Kow and salsa music from Quemando.

One-third of proceeds will benefit Himalaya Health Care, a group that is providing support to Nepal in the wake of the devastating earthquake there several weeks ago. Nepali pop star Deepesh Bhattarai and his band Kasthamandap will be at the festival to perform as well.

Tickets are $12-$15 and are available at lefthandbrewing.com.

MEMORIAL DAY FUN

Boulder County is home to several Memorial Day events every year. Whether it’s a special festival or a picnic in the park, let’s hope the rain finally lets up and allows us to go outside and enjoy the day off.

Hoping it does, here are a couple unique Memorial Day events to check out in the county.

First, you can head up to the Gold Hill Inn for their Memorial Day Mountain Music Fest and Barbecue. Band performances will include those from Gasoline Lollipops, Banshee Tree, Molly O’Brien and Rich Moore. Better yet is the food. The Gold Hill Inn will be cooking up and serving smoked salmon and a heap of apple cider brisket with all the fixin’s. Event runs 12-5 p.m. Tickets are $15 for music and $14 more for food.

The Post Brewing Co. in Lafayette is hosting a Memorial Day event from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. at the brewery. Fresh smoked barbecue pork will be available alongside their regular menu and cadre of beer. Smoked ribs and shoulder with sides of beans, coleslaw and cornbread will go for $13. The band Many Mountains will also provide music. For more information, visit postbrewing.com.

And of course you can stop by the Boulder Creek Festival over Memorial Day weekend to watch some ducks race, listen to music and eat some of the best local food around. Food trucks and vendors will be on hand to dish out a variety of cuisines and drinks. For more information, visit bceproductions.com.

DISTILLERY OF THE YEAR

Leopold Bros. Distillery, a Denver distillery with vodkas, gins, whiskeys and liqueurs ubiquitous across the state, was recently named Distillery of the Year by the American Distilling Institute.

Leopold Bros. is a small batch distillery that recently moved into their award-winning facility last year. Their new headquarters was fitted for environmental sustainability, including using reclaimed wood flooring and furniture, building table tops out of used rail cars and sculpting brass lighting fixtures out of an old ship. The 20,000-square-foot production facility is home to a taproom as well.

Leopold Bros. started as a small distillery in Michigan before owners and brothers Todd and Scott Leopold moved back to their home state of Colorado and opened up shop in Denver in 2008.
