2012 heat wave records not likely to last through 2013

Almost every month in the spring and summer of 2012 has set records for heat.

Across the country, heat and drought have affected almost every state, as July was the hottest on record in the U.S. Internationally, drought and record highs have affected areas from India to the Arctic — where ice is melting at record speeds.

That’s nothing. In 2013, the weather could be even worse — much worse. The still-mysterious El Niño weather system will drive temperatures up even higher.
