Results of mountain transit study out
Boulder County recently asked residents, commuters and recreational users of its mountain towns to provide thoughts on potential mountain transit service serving their communities.
Nearly 500 responses to the survey were collected from July 14 to Aug. 15. Among the key findings were that service frequency, hours and stop locations of potential bus service are the most important ridership criteria for new transit service. The results also show that almost 90 percent of the respondents visit Boulder County recreation areas outside their community at least a few times a month; 54 percent do so at least once a week. Brainard Lake, Eldora Resort and the Hessie and Fourth of July trailheads were listed as the most desired locations for recreation-oriented transit service. Results from the survey are currently being used to create a transit system plan to be included in a Mountain Town Transit Feasibility Study report, which is expected to be completed in November.
BCAP marks 25 years The Boulder County AIDS Project will celebrate its 25th anniversary at its annual dinner, the Local Legends Ball, at 6 p.m. on Oct. 3 at the St. Julien Hotel & Spa.
Cleve Jones, a noted human rights activist and founder of the AIDS Memorial Quilt, will be guest speaker at October event.
The ball will also showcase some of Boulder’s finest restaurants and chefs, who will be hosting culinary stations with samples of their cuisine. In addition, BCAP will honor several community members, along with one community organization and business for their efforts to assist the nonprofit in its work.
The event will help BCAP raise funds to pay for its efforts to provide assistance, advocacy and education to local residents who are infected with or affected by HIV.

Erie Harvest Fest coming
The annual Erie Oktoberfest, which has been renamed “Erie Harvest Fest,” will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Oct. 2 at the Coal Creek Park and Ball Fields.
The event, which was started by the Chamber of Commerce eight years ago, features live entertainment, delicious foods and many activities, from pumpkin decorating to a pie-baking contest to hayrides.
There will also be a new talent contest this year, beginning at 2 p.m. with two age categories: 12 and under, and 13 and older. The entry fee is $10 for individuals, $20 for duets and $25 for groups of 3 or more. The registration form and entry fee must be submitted by Sept. 24.

Making safer routes to school
GO Boulder and the city of Boulder are requesting community proposals for infrastructure improvements as part of the Colorado Safe Routes to School program. The 100 percent federally funded effort aims to create facilities that encourage more students, parents, faculty and staff to walk and bike to City of Boulder schools.
Proposals must be completed and returned to GO Boulder by 4 p.m. on Oct. 13. Proposal requirements, deadlines and forms are available from a link in the city’s online news section at www.bouldercolorado.gov.

Donate your old tools
The Center for Resource Conservation’s ReSource Yard will be holding a used tool drive at 6400 Arapahoe Rd. to help launch its community tool library. For a small annual fee, county residents and nonprofit organizations will be able to borrow a variety of tools, from electric screwdrivers to post-hole diggers.
Unwanted and seldom-used tools will be accepted from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 25 and Oct. 2, as well as from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 26 and Oct. 3. Preferred tools that are being requested include general hand tools, power tools, carpentry tools, painting tools, plumbing tools, cleaning tools and landscaping and garden tools.
