Conservative shoppers are less likely to buy a product with labeling that points out that it helps the environment.
That’s the conclusion of a study on compact florescent bulbs, the new (-ish) light bulb design that has been ripped by conservative favorite Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn.
In the study, CFLs were placed next to conventional light bulbs and were priced the same. When the CFLs and conventional bulbs had basic, energy-use-only labels and the CFLs had no particular label indicating they help the environment and reduce emissions, conservatives and liberals bought CFLs at about the same rate.
But when basic green labels like “Protect the Environment” were added to the CFLs, conservative consumers were less likely to buy them.
