Glaciers melting faster than scientists predicted

Ice caps melting was among the first tangible signs of global warming, and it’s time to bring the focus back to them, says environmentalist Bill McKibben, especially as they continue to melt rapidly.

Last month, scientists noted rapid ice melt across Greenland, a “freak event” that points to the alarming rate at which sea levels are likely going to rise soon. And events across the globe, including Colorado’s wildfires, could be contributing to the melt, as soot and ash covers the ice and causes it to melt faster.
