The country’s largest and most outspoken pro-gun group has been silent since the school shooting in Newtown, Conn. that left 27 people dead, including 20 children.

The National Rifle Association took down its Facebook page, which had reached 1.7 million “Likes” the day before the shooting. The group has not made any public statement since the shooting and has not used its Twitter page in days.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the gun control debate, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) announced she intends to introduce a bill to ban assault weapons on the first day of the new Congressional session.
