‘Django Unchained’: Tarantino’s use of N-word debated

Quentin Tarantino’s latest film, Django Unchained, pretty directly deals with race in America.

Following a freed slave in the pre-Civil-War South, the film’s dialogue is peppered with the N-word, spoken by both white and black characters.

The use of the word raises issues not just with how the N-word is portrayed in film, but how Tarantino’s work treads or crosses the line between historical re-enactment and caricature. Is the use a reflection of or a caricature of the antebellum South?
