Justin Bieber’s pet monkey: Stunner, it’s a terrible idea

It doesn’t matter how popular singer Justin Bieber is or how many albums he sells. It’s a bad idea for him or for anyone else to own primates as pets.

That’s the verdict from Debbie Leahy, manager of captive wildlife protection for the Humane Society of the United States.

They can carry disease. They can become aggressive in adulthood. They can destroy your house. They can do just about anything, Leahy says, that any stereotypical bad pet can do. And they are more social than most pets, meaning separating a single monkey, like Bieber’s capuchin monkey, from its family is particularly difficult for the animals to deal with.
